Letter of Invitation

01 September 2008

Colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to attend the Theobroma Cacao: Tree of Change, Cocoa Symposium in Kumasi, Ghana on October 28th - 30th, 2008.

The symposium will bring to center stage the role of science towards a sustainable regional and world cocoa economy which includes sustainable cocoa production, socio-economic development through remunerative incomes for farmers, and ensures the environment precursors remain in place to meet tomorrow's demand. As the producer of 70% of world cocoa bean supply, the overall significance of West and Central Africa to these issues is immense.

The overall objective is to determine the status, trends and future scenarios for cocoa production in West and Central Africa and how they relate to the global demand.

Presentations from distinguished keynote speakers from around the world and plenary sessions take place on day one. Day two begins with the continuation of the plenary sessions and ends with six working groups covering topics of germplasm, multifunctional agriculture, farmer returns, West Africa, national policy frameworks, and farmer organizations.

Registration for the event can be made, and additional details can be found on the event website, www.cocoatreeofchange.org.

Sincerely,

Organizing Committee
